Pecan

Precious cat purring on the bed,

So little and brittle, yet strong in spirit.

I came to find you, to be with you,

To have you give me something

I was never good enough to have.

You spoil me with your beauty,

Your innocence and your strength,

Making me feel inferior, upset

About how life isn't fair,

How something as pure as I was,

Who got thrown in the trash,

Should live unstained by the hurt,

Angers me to the point of breaking.

Precious cat running off the bed,

I just wanted to love you.

But you wouldn't let me,

You kept evading me,

Only coming around

When you wanted me, selfishly,

Creeping slowly into my arms,

The tension in your eyes

Placated by my touch,

Forcing me to realize

How fairness and justice

Can fuel a righteous anger,

The most dangerous of morals.
