Words are the least effective method of communication. They are often misunderstood, misinterpreted, or taken out of context. They can poison our thoughts because sometimes we don't know how to interpret them. This leads to doubt, insecurity, and uncertainty. It would be better if we all communicated through body language, guttural sounds, or something less abstract than words- things without separate definitions for each individual. A universality in communication would clear up all the misunderstandings that result from our over-reliance on words.
Many emotions are nonverbal. We have trouble explaining what they mean or why we feel them. The same goes with thoughts. Many cannot be expressed using words alone. The word love, for instance, conveys so many different meanings that I struggle to keep up with them. Then, in the middle of a conversation, if I use a loaded word like love, I catch myself wondering if the other person is understanding the context I'm using. Sometimes this causes the conversation to fall apart, because I'm so worried about the other person correctly interpreting what I'm saying that I backtrack, interject, stutter, etc.
True, I use words profusely when I communicate. And of course, I'm using them right now. They are a necessary evil; I just think they should be avoided if possible.
