Dear America

Dear America, leader of the free world,

How can you stand and watch while this beautiful planet gets polluted beyond recovery?  You set the example, others follow suit.  If the environment isn't one of your top priorities, it also isn't one of the global community's.  Instead you're devoted to the stock market, military spending, the next pop culture fad.  Entertainment that distracts us from the cold hard truth, that the planet is breaking and we have no desire to fix it.

Your emblem is not the regal eagle, but a bloodstained ax with stars and stripes on its handle.  You cut all the forests down like there's no tomorrow.  And all the animals have nowhere left to hide from your blade, just like our minds.  We are at its mercy, shaped and shredded into coins for the consumerist lobotomy.

Your religion doesn't tell us what we really are.  Cattle lined up for the slaughter.  Sheep sheared for the oligarchs, naked in their petri dishes.  A parasite, a virus consuming every natural resource before moving on, until there's nothing left.  It doesn't tell us how are are just tools for the planet's survival, only used for oxygen to provide plans.  When the balance is disrupted, the planet won't think twice about kicking us off.
