An interesting thing about most people is that they often see in others what they are guilty of themselves. They also accuse others of being what they get offended about. For example, if you get angry at someone for calling you an idiot, it’s likely because you are insecure about appearing foolish to others and are trying to hide certain realities that someone’s exposed in you. Everyone looks like an idiot from time to time; there's no avoiding ignorance. The question is how you handle being accused of one. If someone called you an idiot and you knew you weren’t, would you react the same way if someone called you one and you thought you really were? Do you find yourself calling other people idiots because you need the satisfaction of feeling intellectually superior?
A mentally stable person doesn’t react when someone calls them something and doesn’t use name-calling to announce their own weaknesses to others. Recognize what makes you angry when someone calls you it, come to your senses, and think about why it made you angry. Is it denial? Nowadays I tend to laugh when someone calls me a fool because I know I’m not. In the past I would get offended because I was insecure about appearing smart to others. Since the tides have reversed, it’s easy to see how this works.
Know thyself, accept your faults, work on them, and stay light.
