Gold

You only find it when you aren't looking,
A simple prize to keep you from sulking.
The kings and the queens they wear it proud,
But the serfs and the slaves they aren't allowed.
A color discovered in the darkest of caves,
From Brazil to Japan it leaves all amazed.
In the temples of Europe it's deemed supreme,
In the pyramids of Egypt it seems like a dream,
Where sarcophagi are gilded in the flesh of old,
Where succulent skins are aflush with gold.
Timeless the sand watches the sun cement
What this color inspires men to invent,
The greatest of art replete with a shine,
Catching the eye by a hue so divine.
