Corporate Participation in Political Campaigns

I believe it is ethical for corporations to express support for political campaigns as long as it does not involve financial aid.  This is because I tend to take the position that money is not speech and corporations are not people, even though they can represent them.  Since taxes are not optional for U.S. citizens, I do not see how money can be related to speech, which is optional.  Another problem is that some “people” have more money than others, especially corporations, lending more power to their “voices”, which contradicts the principle of equality in a democracy.  Freedom is only virtuous to me if equal rights are being protected by it.  Considering this, I believe the regulation on corporate finance campaign is far too lenient these days, it even exists.  The Court decisions in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission and the McCutcheon v. Federal Election Commission summarily deemed all regulations on campaign finance unconstitutional (Lumen Learning).  At the very least, there should be limits on how much a corporation can spend on promoting a candidate.  A block of corporations that would support a candidate who rejects every law written against them is not in the best interest of the people; it is in the best interest of big business.
