Socrates was partially correct in his belief that all wrongdoing is due to ignorance; that had we known the consequences of our actions, we'd have done the right thing, because we generally think we're doing the right thing, and the right thing is good. I have known many people like this. However I've also known people who knew what they were doing was wrong, yet did it anyway, whether for pleasure or some other selfish game. Socrates is rather naive in this regard. It's not easy to tell the difference between these people; sometimes, the best we can do is assume their conscience is innocent unless proven guilty. That seems like the most morally lawful position to take.
