Consciousness: The Fifth Force of Physics

The universe is a quantum computer.  Every particle is coded by its long history of interactions with others.  Events that happen to particles that are far apart simultaneously affect others they've connected with.  The parameter for a particle cloud (a group of particles that behave similarly when one of them is affected) is consciousness.  Any collection of particles that work together to form a cohesive unit, whether it be as small as a molecule or as large as a planet, generates a life force that can only be described as having consciousness.

Quantum computing is similar in that disparate calculations take place simultaneously, no matter how far apart their operators are, allowing for the greatest efficiency one can imagine.  The brain behaves the same way; many sense-perceptions are performed at the same time, despite us only being able perceive one at a time.  What we perceive at any given time is a superposition of all these sense-perceptions put together.  For example, the feeling of nostalgia might be the super-positioning of normal sense (sound, taste, smell) over that of a memory triggered by it, and by any hormones these sensations release.

The phenomenon isn't restricted to the human brain by any means, for life can either be far more simple or far more complex than we imagine.  If we allow ourselves the possibility that life permeates the whole universe, from the smallest of scales to the largest, the idea of a new fundamental force presents itself.  Physicists agree that there are four fundamental forces of physics: gravitational, electromagnetic, and the weak and strong nuclear forces.  There may be others to be found, but I believe the most critically overlooked one is consciousness.  It's the only force that can travel faster than the speed of light.  There isn't even a speed involved with it since it bypasses time altogether.  Events that happen due to conscious forces are simultaneous, from one end of the universe to the other.
