I live in the background of an animated painting
Wild with color, infested with life, blazing with natural beauty.
My home is up on a cliff, far down the coast
In that area where the fading sunlight
Graces the diaphanous foliage at twilight,
While moons and stars make their entry
On the pitchblende ceiling above.
All in the foreground is swimming with glee,
Searching for any last morsels before night sets in.
A whale breaches the inverted sunset
That refracts the water like an inverted bulb.
The mirror is completed by brightly colored fish
Reflecting planetary incandescence in the sky above.
I live behind the scenes, far away from the rocky volcano
That drains waterfalls instead of lava,
Away from all the movement on the surface,
Distant, mysterious, every preening eye wondering
What other enchantments there are to behold
Amidst all this glamour competing for attention.
